Jordi Matas

Personal Esparraguera studies and continued his musical education with the Bachelor of Music and Modern Jazz at the Taller de Barcelona José Luis Gámez, Victor de Diego, Horacio Fumero, Alfons Carrascosa. He also attended the "International Seminar of Igualada Jazz" with Sam Yahel, Benny Golson and Idris Muhammad, and the "International Seminar at the Palau de la Musica de Valencia" with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Nasheet Waits, Ben Street, Bruce Barth and Michael P. Mossman.

He studied with José Luis Gámez, Jordi Bonell, Rick Peckam, Ben Monder, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Peter Bernstein.

He has received awards:

• Artist's revelation in 2003 by the Association of Musicians Jazz and Modern Music of Catalonia. • Best Guitarist in 2004 by the Association of Musicians Jazz and Modern Music of Catalonia. • 2005 Frontier spokesman with the HAT group.

"After The Gig," the opening track on Racons, sounds like an electrified Oregon--not so much because of the instrumentation as the metrically loose but rhythmically sophisticated interplay of the quintet.
