JOSEPH ‘AKILI’ WHITT; BA, MM: Part time world travler has hiked/backpacked in the following regions/mountain ranges: THE ALPS, DOLIMITES, APPILACHIAN, ARTIC, PYRENEES, ROCKIES, WICHITAS, GRAND CANYON, MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, JAMAICA, SANTA MONICA, PACIFIC COAST, AND LIGURIA. Joseph has also, performed music in 20+ countries, in concert halls and leading performance venues around the globe including: The Kimmel Center, The Peabody, Budapest War Memorial, Orlando Museum of Art, Nexus, Chris’s Jazz, The Zofin, The Tweeter Center, Hard Rock Café, Zanzibar Blue, The Knitting Factory, Twins Jazz, The Jacoby, Bob Car Performing Arts Center, The Philadelphia Ethical Society, ABC No Rio, Twins Lounge, Broad Street Ministry, Lang Hall, and The Painted Bride. Joe has traveled to and through nearly 30 countries has held teaching position at Settlement Music School, as well as continuously managed a private teaching studio. Classically speaking Joe has performed with The Orlando Philharmonic, Opera Tampa, Haddonfield Symphony, The New Jersey Opera Theater, The Imperial Symphony, Space Coast Symphony, The Bel Canto Singers, The Bach Festival Orchestra, The Central Florida Symphony, The Strauss Symphony, The Lancaster Symphony, The Great Hall Chamber Orchestra, Vox Ama Deus, Voces Novae et Antiqae. Joe has collaborated with groups from hip-hop, punk rock, jazz, classical, improvisation, big band, mixed media, R&B, chamber music, funk, and dance ensembles. A member of the American Composers Forum and improvisation artist in Philadelphia, he was frequently featured on Bowerbird events and Good Fridays throughout the city. He has performed in concert and/or recital with Harry Allen, Stewart Dempster, Wayne Burgeron, Pauline Oliveros, David Gamper, Christian Wolfe, Rebecca Copley, William Stokking, Bobby Zenkel, David Kim, Davis Gaines, Mark O' Conner, and Marvin Hamlisch.
