Karina Colis

Karina Colis, Mexican drummer, percussionist and vocalist based in New York , graduated Summa Cum Laude in Berklee College of Music in 2006. Her musical work is characterized by a diversity of rhythms and styles, combining the roots of various Latin/South American traditions with elements of Jazz, Fusion and Pop.

Karina has been member of several projects in New York, Mexico, India and Spain, having performed with several projects at big audience international festivals and many renown venues over twenty countries, some to include Birdland Jazz Club , Lincoln Center, Blue Note Jazz Festival in New York City, John F Kennedy Center in Washington DC, “Calcutta Jazz Festival” in India WOMAD in UK, “Virada Cultural” in Brazil, “Montreal Jazz Festival” in Canada, “New Morning” in Paris, Primavera Festival in Barcelona Spain,Vive Latino in Mexico City ...just to name a few.

Karina has been honored to shared stage and collaborated with acclaimed international artists and Grammy Award winners such as Paquito D Rivera, Ruben Blades, Esperanza Spalding, Dee dee Bridgewater, mexican drumer Antonio Sanchez, John Benitez, Colombian Jazz Arpist Edmar Castaneda. As proof os her stylistic range, she has appeared with pop singer Thalia at Telton 2014 (ABC studios in Times quare NY and has performed at high light events with Renown Classical musicians from India such as flutist Rakesh Chaurasia, Guitarist Prasanna, Sujat Khan, tabla player Fazal Quresi among many other...

As a music educator, Karina has been faculty Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in Chennai in India for two years and has participated in several workshops and at many colleges and universities within the USA including "The Latin Culture Week" at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Teatro Colon in Colombia and London.

Karina’s work is portrayed in more than 20 albums including “Canibalismo” Chicha libre (Barbes Records) “Mango” and “ Ecuatorial” by Alex Alvear "Quiero" Cocomama (Truth Revolution Records) Mariachi Flor de Toloache’ s album (nominated for best Latin Album 2015) and “Cumbia Universal” Gregorio Uribe Big Band (Zoho Music) featuring Latin music icon singer/Songwriter/Actor Ruben Blades.

Karina's original compositions and arrangements are characterized by a diversity of rhythms and styles, combining the roots of various Latin/South American and world music with fusion and jazz. Karina has performed with her project in Mexico, New York and India. Just recently many of her compositions have been featured in Raw Channel, a syndicated television series that began production in November of 2010.
