Kate Amrine

Kate Amrine is a trumpet player familiar with many different styles including classical, jazz, and musical theatre. She is a graduate of NYU Steinhardt with a BM in Trumpet Performance and during her time at NYU, she studied with Thomas Hoyt, Laurie and Jeremy Pelt. She is frequently involved in musical theater productions in the city including West Side Story, In the Heights, Company, City of Angels, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd, and Into the Woods. Kate is also a music contractor in the NYC area and recently contracted a 26 member orchestra for Tisch New Theatre’s production of West Side Story at Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Kate recently started her own brass quintet, performing both classical and jazz, featuring some of her own compositions and arrangements – some of which were recently premiered on her senior recital. Kate is an active freelancer in the city performing with a variety of ensembles including the Hot Shim Sham Orchestra, Billy Harper’s Voices, This Ambitious Orchestra, and the String Orchestra of Brooklyn.

Kate currently works as an assistant to Director of Brass, John Rojak – assisting and helping facilitate various activities in the department. In addition, Kate worked for several years as a Personal Assistant to Jeremy Pelt and was Tour Manager for the Jeremy Pelt Quintet’s tour throughout France, Germany, Austria, and Turkey in fall 2012.

She has performed at various NYC venues including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Frederick Loewe Theatre, Skirball Center for Performing Arts, Somethin’ Jazz Club, Provincetown Playhouse, Bar Thalia at Symphony Space, St. Peter’s Church, Swing 46, Highline Ballroom, Roseland Ballroom, Sullivan Hall, Cornelia Street Café, Zinc Bar, and Spike Hill. She has studied with Thomas Hoyt, Jeremy Pelt, Laurie Frink, Chris Gekker, and Chris Sala. Kate has played with Norah Jones, Thomas Gold, Randy Brecker, Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown, the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, Doreen Ketchens, Cecil McBee, Rufus Reid, Kenny Rittenhouse, and Thee Phantom.
