At eighteen, Kate Gratson, is a rising talent to be watched. Kate is an aspiring singer/ songwriter who is enjoying recent success with her first EP entitled “COINS”, released in the Fall of 2013 on iTunes. Thanks to the help of a few friends and Chris Gilroy at Lofish Studios in New York, this EP has turned quite a few heads.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Kate began her music studies as a cellist then added classical voice. As a High School Sophomore, at the pre-college at the Manhattan School of Music, Kate was awarded a “George London Foundation Scholarship” for classical voice. The following year Kate added Jazz vocals to her musical studies. Her efforts paid off; in 2012 Kate was selected to participate with the Grammy Jazz choir in Los Angeles. There, she was featured as a soloist and recorded an LP at Capital Records with the Grammy Camp choir, band, and combo.
As a songwriter, Kate was one of three NYC high school students selected to participate in the 2013 “Grammy In The Schools” annual NYC event. Her song entitled, “Coins”, was the closing act at the Pace University event. Kate was thrilled to share the stage with professional back up vocalists and recording musicians. In the spring of her senior year at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, she and two fellow students were asked to write and perform a tribute song for a the annual school benefit, that was honoring Ben Vereen. Kate was grateful to sing for Mr. Vereen, and participate in such a worthwhile event. It was a fitting close to her high school experience.
