Kenny MacKenzie

Kenny MacKenzie Trio have been playing together since 2000. Kenny spent most of his life on Long Island but now lives in FL. Most of the other players live in NYC. In 2001 they began playing live in a quintet format in the heart of NYC's West Village at Café Creole every Monday from May 2001 to Sept 2003. Shortly after the start of this gig they performed as a trio in Louis Bar (now Louis 649) every Thursday from August 01 to August 04. Beginning in November 2002 the trio also began month long fill-ins for Eri Yamamoto at famed Arthur's Tavern and continued to do so semi-annually through Nov. 2004. In 2005 Kenny joined the Shenole Latimer Quartet. From June 2007 to Feb. 2008 the trio set up closer to Kenny's home at the Elk Street Grille in Port Jefferson. Kenny has a performing trio in FL with John Pellegrino on bass and Scott Mariash on drums. They perform the first Friday of every Month at La Crepe en Haut - Ormond Beach, frequently adding Flugelhornist Marc Koblick in later sets.

Kenny also records electronic music as Seven Octaves.

"This is true jazz, full of improvisational brilliance, real soul and expert playing. Keyboardist MacKenzie really shines...rounded out by Nathan Peck on bass and Yoni Halevy on drums, an astonishingly locked-in rhythm section." - Good Times Magazine

"MacKenzie's trio plays with a relaxed and knowing feel that reminds me of what Vince Guaraldi did with the Peanuts material" - Mark Seleski (Jazz.com)

"MacKenzie presents a varied program of inventive original music that brings to mind the angular style of Keith Jarrett and the groovy appeal of Ramsey Lewis." - Cadence Magazine

"Joyful original tunes and crisp playing...Why can't every modern-bop group show this much spirit?" - KZSU radio
