Kirsi-Marja “Kiki” Harju (27.01.1993) is a diverse professional musician from Finland. Through Porvoo Area Music Institute, Sibelius High School and Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Finland she has found her way to study jazz music in Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She will graduate as Bachelor of Arts in 2019, jazz trumpet as her main subject. Harju has studied trumpet playing with Ruud Breuls, Jan Oosthof, Jarmo Hoogendijk, Jan Wessels, Alex Sipiagin, Terrell Stafford, Ambrose Akinmusire, Tero Saarti, Mikko Karjalainen, Tero Lindberg, Leo Kylätasku, Raimo Korhonen and Reijo Ruokonen. As vocal teachers she has had for example Humphrey Campbell and Sanni Orasmaa. In addition to Harju’s own groups, KAMA Kollektiv and Kiki-O, she has worked and performed with many other different kinds of bands and orchestras. In Finland she used to work with Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company (Winner of the WE JAZZ - Rising Star - Award 2014), Karina, Porvoo Big Band, Metropolia Big Band, Junior All Stars Big Band and Kuullos Orchestra for example. She also recorded with some of those projects. In the summer 2015 Harju worked as an actress, singer and trumpet player in a musical theatre piece in Lahti, Finland. In the Netherlands Harju has gained experience playing for example in groups like Amsterdam Funk Orchestra (also in a Dutch television program “De Wereld Draait Door”), Lowland Latinas and Barmy57. One of the most remarkable experiences for Harju during her time in the Netherlands has been joining the Metropole Orchestra Academy for two projects in autumn 2017 and spring 2018, being able to play there both in a big band & soloist and in a symphony orchestra setting. Harju has also few different duo projects, playing both original and standard jazz material and performing in different occasions. Also, some festivals like Oslo Jazz Festival, Pori Jazz and Kaustinen Folk Music Festivals have been able to hear Harju’s playing and singing during the years. Harju is a passionate and active composer and at the moment she writes for her own group called KAMA Kollektiv. Their debut album “KOTI” will be released on March 29th in 2019. As a trumpet teacher Harju has gained experience while working in the Porvoo Area Music Institute in Finland as a father’s leave substitute in August – September 2016. At the moment she teaches private students here in Amsterdam.
