Swng Time
Originally from Baltimore, MD. While in Baltimore I played in the Bing Miller Big Band which did a tour to Frankfurt, West Germany in 1985. I also played musical shows for local theaters and played in backup bands for Carmella Quinn and Al Martino. In addition I taught saxophone and clarinet privately.
In 1988 I rejoined the military band program. This time I joined the Navy Band Program. In 1978 - 1981 I was in the Army Band Program. The Navy's Atlantic Fleet Band brought me to this area. While in the Navy Band in Norfolk and Orlando I played in various ensembles which included Jazz Ensemble, US Navy Show Band, Concert Band/Wind Ensemble, TGIF and Full Speed Ahead Variety Bands, Four Star Edition Rock Band, Navy Band Orlando Show Band, Reception Combo. I was the leader of the Saxophone Quartet, Dixieland Band and the Fleet Jazz Combo at the Atlantic Fleet Band. In addition I wrote arrangements for TGIF/Full Speed Ahead, the Dixieland Band, Saxophone Quartet, Big Band and Jazz Combo.
While in the Navy Band I played in the backup bands for Lee Greenwood, Chuck Mangione, Roan Tinan (Irish Tenor), and Keeley Smith. In addition I also played in the Four Tops backup band when they came to Norfolk. I played shows for the Regent University Music Theater and the Yoder Barn Theater. Since retiring from the Navy Band I am the Saxophone Section Leader for the Tidewater Winds, a professional Sousa style concert band. I also teach saxophone and clarinet privately and book my band Swing Time locally.
Touring includes the Colorado, N & S Dakota, Minn, Wyoming, and Iowa area while in the Army Band at Ft. Carson,Co. In the Navy we toured Trinidad, West Africa (Benin, Gabon and The Congo), Puerto Rico, Ireland, Halifax, Nova Scotia and the East Coast from Conn, NYC and all points in between down to Key West, FL. In Navy Band Orlando we played quite frequently at Disney World, MGM, Epcot and Universal Studios. While a member of the Bing Miller Big Band we toured to Frankfurt, West Germany playing at the 5 Star International Park Hotel.
Swing Time is a very swinging 3-4 piece jazz combo that is dedicated to playing the Great American Songbook. We play everything from traditional New Orleans style Jazz up through Bossa Nova. Our basic style is similar to the small jazz groups that played in the 40's, 50's and 60's.
