Leonie Smith

Sydney Vocalist Leonie Smith's velvety smoothness can't conceal her versatility. She effortlessly, and seamlessly, effects shifts in mood, and tempo, as she spools through her considerable repertoire of songs 'we all know', and love. She can soulfully tease out, say, the languid longing of Summertime, to the brink of poignancy, in a fashion that'd do even Billie proud. She can pull out all the stops for an 'A Train'. Or with equal aplomb, bounce every ounce of wry humour out of a Cole-fired classic. From Rogers and Hart, to Monk, and all shades in-between, she can make it sing; she can make it swing! From ballads to blues, the girl's got it covered.” Brad Skye 2rrrfm

Leonie has been singing professionaly since 1992. She joined the Mo Award winning Band “The Andrew Sister’s Sister’s” in 1994 for 2 years, and toured many Clubs and Featured with some of Australia’s most famous artists at special events and functions, including at the Entertainment Centre and as an integral part of the celebrations held in March of 1994 for the end of WW2 where they played at the opera house and many other venues.

Since then as a soloist she has appeared with some of the Best Jazz Artists Australia has to offer, including Touring with George Golla in duet twice to Tasmania, 2004/05 with Bobby Gebbert, Matt Baker, John Morrison, Matt McMahon, to name a few, and the “Legends Jazz Band” at the Manly Jazz festival 2004 which included G.Golla, & Errol Buddle.

Leonie released her Debut Album in June 2003. "Sweet Jazz" was produced by Kerrie Biddell who was also her mentor and singing coach for over 2 years and John Morrison, two very well known names in the Australian Jazz Scene. Kerrie for her status as Australia's undisputed leading jazz vocalist, and John for his musicianship and notoriety as the leader of the "Swing City" Jazz Band.

The result is an Album of favourite Jazz tunes sung with style and commitment, and a stunning voice, backed by Australia's top Jazz musicians. With Special guest George Golla.
