Lightwave is a jazz quartet cd which follows in the long, great tradition of quartets featuring saxophone. The rhythm section features the talents of pianist Dan Karlsberg, bassist Steve Whipple, and drummer Anthony Lee, who have been playing together as a trio for over 8 years. Their uncommon level of talent and communication is what drew Brent to collaborate with them for this, his second album. This recording sets a relaxing, yet uplifting mood with strong compositions. tight arrangements and amazing improvisations. Brent Gallaher's soulful sound floats effortlessly over this savvy young rhythm section. His maturity mixing well with their playful interactions. Dan Karlsberg's solos are a like a cocktail of the melodic mastery of Bill Evans, the rich harmonies and rhythmic funk of Herbie Hancock with a twist of Monk, begging us to imbibe. Steve Whipple brings swinging bass lines and melodic phrases that would rival any horn's and Anthony Lee explosive fills and intricate improvisations excite the listener mind, body and soul.
