Album Description

This is a live recording of the Claude Cozens Trio featuring Kyle Shepherd on piano, Benjamin Jeptha on bass and Claude Cozens on drums. The selected setlist was compiled from the most played compositions by the trio and also due to the special feature on the Grahamstown Jazz Festival jazz. Many musicians and young musicians were present from all over the South Africa and abroad. All of these compositions was recorded in 2014 when the trio did a studio album. The comparison is interesting as over time the musicianship of each member and a group has evolved. The audience would also contribute to the atmosphere on stage naturally. The trio had not performed together in a while and a reunited spirit of some sort is captured on this live recording. "The open-ended nature of the way we play together is absolutely thrilling as an improviser. Extended vamps, solos and spontaneous risk taking why I love playing this music and all other music.
