Lizzie Thomas Lizzie Thomas

Vocalist and musician Lizzie Thomas has made a name for herself in NYC as a swinging, sultry vocalist with a beautiful stage presence. She captivates her audience with the rare ability to sing with absolute precision on lightning speed tempos, with melodic freedom and control. Her phrasing is effortless and naturally swings.

She has won high praise performing and/or recording with many, including Russell Malone, Jay Leonhart, Xavier Davis, Alvester Garnett, Michael Kanan, Ron Affif, Frank Lacy, Antoine Drye, Pasquale Grasso, and John Colianni.

“I love that I can call a tune, for the rest of my life and I will never sing it the same way. That’s freedom, that’s provocative - That’s jazz.”

Lizzie Thomas started studying classical piano at the age of 8, clarinet at 10, and at age 12 her voice was discovered. She was graduated with a Vocal Performance BA degree from Belmont University, in Nashville TN, where she studied with Sandra Dudley. She also holds a Music Education Degree and certification in early childhood music. In Nashville, she worked with many indie alternative bands on keyboards while developing her authentic jazz presence and voice.

She recalls, “I fell in love with the improvisational spirit of jazz and the emotions proclaimed and evoked. I listened only to Billie Holiday for a year when I first heard her voice. I was mesmerized by the musical heartache in her delivery. It was Billie that taught me to sing only what was true to my heart.”

Miss Thomas “nails” every one of the nine songs in this repertoire. Her versions are extrovert where they should be and deeply impassioned and introvert when the narrative and emotions call for it.

All of the music ere is, in effect, a miniature drama in itself and Miss Thomas nails the characters in them to perfection. Finding a wide palette of colours within her naturally warm voice she is equally in her element making her case in the bravado of “Fascinating Rhythm” as well as in the langorous lyricism of “The Very Thought of You”.
