Album Description

LOOK WITHIN DEBUT ALBUM OUT MARCH 5, 2021! Spirituality has been a major theme in drummer/composer Joe Dyson’s work. Born in New Orleans to a religious and musically gifted family, Joe began his artistry at the tender age of 2. It was in the church that he cultivated the intuitive way of learning, guided by folklore and immersed in the vast culture of the city. Dyson thrives at the intersection of the church, traditional study and apprenticeship. It is this trinity, combined with sounds and sights from touring the world, that has culminated in a stunning debut album. LOOK WITHIN is a sonic exploration of spirituality. It marks the first time Joe has given himself permission to explore his thoughts, and express himself via harmonic score. LOOK WITHIN blends elements of gospel, jazz, R&B, AFRO New Orleans Rhythm, and Spiritual Philosophies that manages to create a luscious soundscape. Pushing the boundaries of typical modern jazz, the laid back and intimate LOOK WITHIN is an emotional and introspective journey that allows us a glimpse into the mind of Joe Dyson.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
