Lucia Cadotsch
Originally from Zurich, now living in Berlin, Lucia Cadotsch studied Jazz at the UDK Berlin and at the RMK in Copenhagen. The German Newspaper DIE ZEIT recognizes in the singer one of the most important voices “for the resurrection of jazz melody beyond tired scripts and singer-songwriter clichés.”
In 2016 she released the trio album Speak Low (Enja records) with Petter Eldh on bass and Otis Sandsjö on tenor saxophone. The record is a gorgeous sonic love letter to her soul mates from a distant musical past and won her the ECHO Jazz Award 2017 in the category "singer of the year". For „Speak Low“, Cadotsch garnered international attention US Magazine DOWNBEAT as well as THE GUARDIAN rated the album with 5 stars and wrote: „Remember the name Lucia Cadotsch – you’re going to be hearing a lot of it.“ The trio is touring internationally and played at well-known clubs and festivals like Jazzfest Berlin, Cheltenham Festival, Schaffhauser Jazzfestival, Copenhagen Jazzfest, WeJazz Festival Helsinki, Vortex London, Moods Zürich, Bimhuis Amsterdam and Nasjonal Scene Oslo, a.o.
In April 2017 Lucia released her second full-length album Speak Low Renditions. The album features remixes of the songs first published on the prior release "Speak Low", contributed by some of the most innovative artists of the current jazz scene - Julian Sartorius, Dan Nicholls, Colin Vallon, Joy Frempong, Evelinn Trouble, Otis Sandsjö, Frans Petter Eldh, a.m.
Cadotsch was an integral part of the music collective Schneeweiss + Rosenrot (they released three albums and toured internationally) and is currently working with several projects of the progressive Berlin music scene: Together with Wanja Slavin, she runs LIUN + The Science Fiction Band - „synthpop for people of the day after tomorrow“. With the group Yellow Bird she released a super-dada Bluegrass album and together with Hayden Chisholm and the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra, she reclaimed the old time Big-Band Swing for the 21st century. Apart from these projects, she also collaborates in different musical contexts with artists such as Kit Downes, Lucy Railton, Elias Stemeseder and Julian Sartorius.
