Marcus Gilmore Marcus Gilmore

Marcus Gilmore was inspired to pick up percussion by the music of his grandfather, legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes, who gave him his first set of drums at the age of 10. He took naturally to jazz as well as classical theory and percussion. Already one of New York's most in-demand young drummers at age 22, he has performed around the world with some of today's best known jazz artists, including Chick Corea, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Natalie Cole, Clark Terry, Nicholas Payton, Christian Scott, John Patitucci, Wynton Marsalis and the [email protected] Orchestra, Cassandra Wilson, Terence Blanchard, Steve Coleman, Ravi Coltrane, Dave Douglas, Vijay Iyer, Roy Hargrove and many others.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
