Maria Ho

With a smile in her voice, her impeccable articulation and precise diction captivate audiences through a musical breeze of standards, sambas and bossa novas. Inspired by Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Shirley Horn and Freddie Cole, Maria’s engaging and spellbinding stage presence will uplift your mind and brighten your day. Maria treats every song like a painting, drawing from her own experiences and interpretations of these timeless songs to connect with the listener.

Maria is a vocalist, live performer, band leader and recording artist. Whether as a duo, trio, quartet or quintet, she performs regularly at The Toronto Dominion Vancouver International Jazz Festival, BC Children’s Hospital, Jazz Vespers, BC Hospitality Foundation, the Vancouver Christmas Market and special events, including the 2010 Winter Olympics celebration at Robson Square.

Maria has recorded with Richie Cole, Warren Vaché, George Robert, Krishna Booker and Phil Dwyer. Her début album Where or When consists of 13 songs, each one delicately arranged by Torben Oxbol, resulting in a full, lush, elegant and unique sound. The songs are receiving airplay on The Penthouse Radio in New York. “Just a Touch” was chosen as bumper music on Coast to Coast AM. Songs from the début album were also featured on WAMC/Northeast Public Radio, CBC Radio across Canada, DR P1 and DR P8 Jazz in Denmark. The album is also featured Saturday mornings on KUVO in Denver.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
