Mark Buckley

UK based saxophonist Mark Buckley began to play the saxophone at the age of 9, after being inspired by a certain cool, green character named Zoot (!). After a couple of years playing with MYJO and becoming familiar with many of the saxophone greats, a teacher introduced him to a record that would change his life forever. The disc was ‘Voyeur', and the unmistakable sound of David Sanborn filled his soul, fuelling his desire to play professionally. Having obtained all ABRSM grades, his early training was with Paul Harvey. Mark then went on to gain a diploma from the ABRSM in Saxophone Music Performance.

Since 1989 he has played professionally as a soloist, in many different function bands, big bands, groups, ensembles, and pit orchestras. Over the past few years, he has performed in most countries throughout Europe and prestigious locations in Canada, Kenya and Hong Kong. He has a wealth of experience playing at many corporate events and parties around the UK. Mark has tutored a range of age groups on a one-to-one and group basis, demonstrating instrumental performance technique. Drawing inspiration from David Sanborn, Michael Brecker, Bob Berg, Courtney Pine and Candy Dulfer (to name but a few). Mark loves to play funk, jazz, pop, soul, blues and classical. Currently London based, Mark plays Soprano, Alto and Tenor Saxophones.
