Matthew Zachary

Classically trained from the age of 11, Matthew Zachary was 21 and a senior in College majoring in Music when diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer. Aside from threatening his life, the tumor had severely compromised the use of his left hand.

Told he might never walk, let alone play piano again, Matthew refused to give up hope. He empowered himself to continue playing as best he could through both surgery and post-operative treatment. Against all odds and advice, Matthew returned to school that same semester and graduated on time magna cum laude.

Nearing eight years later, Matthew has beaten the odds. He is with us tonight to share his experiences, along with the music inspired by those experiences

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
