MJ Territo

MJ Territo sings standards and beyond, scats, writes lyrics and songs. She comes to jazz from the theatre and cabaret, and brings her experience in those forms to her jazz vocal performances. Her latest CD is "Ladies Day", 14 tunes celebrating the compositions of classic and contemporary jazz women, played by a crackerjack ensemble of musicians who happen to be women. MJ is on the teaching artist rosters of ArtsWestchester and Lifetime Arts and enjoys bringing the joys of jazz, blues and improvisation to students of all ages.

About "Ladies Day" A smoking, core jazz group augmented by some serious talents making names for themselves powers this set that’s certainly a testament to female energy and empowerment. The title might have you thinking it’s a tribute to Billie Holiday but it looks like she’ll have to wait for when this crew puts out a v. 2. Solid playing, singing and song choices make this set a winner throughout. [Chris Spector, Midwest Record]

About "Down With Love" Territo does not sound like any other female jazz singer. Her phrasing and style reminds me more of male singers, like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett than Holiday or Ella. Territo has kind of the same coolness on her phrasing. (Wilfred Sostre, JazzTimes)
