Maria Katindig-Dykes

Maria hails from one of the Philippines' most renowned family of musicians, the Jazz and Latin performers know collectively as the Katindig clan. (Her father is the legendary jazz pianist, Romy Katindig; her brother is international smooth jazz star, Boy Katindig; and her uncle is the sax great, Eddie K).

In the family music business since the age of 16, Maria has performed a wide variety of musical styles, but her true passion is for jazz and bossa nova. In the Philippines, Maria’s credits include a stint with the Circus Band, a pop- rock ensemble selected to represent the Philippines at the Tokyo Music Festival in the 1970s. She has performed at Silahis International Playboy Jazz Club in Manila, and was the featured vocalist for 3 years at the Top of the Hilton in Manila before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii.

In Hawaii, with her husband, jazz pianist, arranger and composer, Jimmie Dykes, she formed Pacifica, a jazz ensemble that performed for an extended run at the Hyatt Regency’s exclusive Jazz Supper Club, Nutmegs, in Singapore.

Maria has also left a mark as a local Southern California artist with performances at Mario's Place, many of the regions universities, and the Silver Screen Jazz Club at the Hyatt on Sunset in Hollywood, alongside internationally renown jazz artists Tal Farlowe and Barney Kessel.

NO MORE BLUES gives you the feel of true, working jazz musicians enjoying their day off by making the music they love listening to. Just like it was back at home for vocalist, Maria Katindig-Dykes. Maria is a Filipinia jazz veteran who hails from the Philippines' most renowned family of musicians: the Jazz and Latin performers know collectively as the Katindig clan. Her father is the legendary Jazzpianist, Romy Katindig.

NO MORE BLUES combines the sonic worlds of straight ahead jazz and bossa nova by offering playful interpretations of Jobim classics and jazz standards arranged by Maria’s husband and musical partner of over 30 years, the southern California based jazz pianist, composer, and international recording artist, Jimmie Dykes

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
