Album Description
Moksha Pulse is the debut album of the guitarist and composer Umberto Tricca. His work has arisen from the fascination that Indian music holds for him, together with his involvement in rhythm issues, the Afro-Cuban rumba counterpoint and his interest for the sound of Contemporary Classic Music. These have been Umberto research topics during the last years. The name of this project comes from the Sanskrit word “Moksha” that means “emancipation, liberation” and it’s related to the choice of the composition style, the need to move away from any preset constrained structure through the processing of all the possible interactions between traditions, music styles and contemporary jazz, apparently so heterogeneous. With these points as basis, Umberto puts together a sextet with some of the best musicians in the Italian jazz scene: the saxophonists Achille Succi and Giacomo Petrucci, the vibraphonist Nazareno Caputo, the double bass player Gabriele Rampi Ungar and the drummer Bernardo Guerra. This group reveals not only an aesthetic consistency to the poetic and the writing of Moksha Pulse but also the necessary level of visionary creativity that exalts open spaces, abstract atmospheres and emphasises the collective sound research of the whole work.
