Monica Yngvesson

Monica Yngvesson is a jazz vocalist and a native of northern Sweden. Monica has performed as a soloist and with groups in festivals, concerts and churches in Northern Europe. In 1998, her musical interests took her to Boston to study jazz performance at Berklee College of Music. Her unique tone and improvisational style have made her a much sought-after vocalist, notably with the Vardan Ovsepian Quartet on their Fresh Sound recordings. Her voice serves to enhance the instrumental range of a group in the role of a string or woodwind. She has inspired composers, such as Vardan Ovsepian, Kaori Tanioka, and Andrew Kim, to write especially for her. As a performer, Monica has appeared at many venues in the Northeast, including jazz clubs such as The Regattabar in Cambridge, MA, and in concerts at the Center for Cultural Exchange in Portland, ME, and the Natick Center for the Arts, MA, among others. Monica is a member of the faculty at The Musical Suite in Newburyport, MA, a private music school, where she teaches classes in performance and improvisation. In March 2004 she was invited as a special guest artist to give master classes and a concert at Towson University in Maryland. While keeping jazz at the heart of her style, Monica has explored pop, folk and classical music. She has collaborated in concerts, radio shows and recording productions with Mick Goodrick, George Garzone and Vardan Ovsepian to name a few. Monica appears on Fresh Sound-New Talent (Spain), Samsound Music and Kinsfolk Production (Sweden).
