Monika Oliveira

Monika Oliveira is a fresh and exciting vocal presence on the New York - Brazilian music scene today. This singer/songwriter was born in Belém do Pará and raised in Rio de Janeiro. She has been living and performing around New York City for over twenty years.

She combines her love of Brazil’s musical heritage and her love of Jazz into a sultry variation on both – Brazilian MPB Jazz that is at once moving and rhythmic, pure and passionate. Monika’s voice enchants and entrances through her innate rhythmic feel and phrasing. Her musical experience extends from Jazz Festivals to Clubs, TV, Film, Radio and Broadway.

As a composer, Monika's music appeared in the 2014 film "The David Dance”, winner of the Tallgrass Film Festival. Her new record, "Zum Zum Zum", which features original music and a few cover songs, was released in October of 2017 in New York City. "Zum Zum Zum" is available on all major platforms.

Monika Oliveira has performed in many venues including the famous Madison Square Garden in NYC where she sang both the Brazilian and American National Anthems for a large crowd of cheering Knicks fans as they took on Bauru from Brazil. Monika was also the featured entertainment at the release of the Globo International television network in the USA, held at the revered Plataforma Restaurant in New York City.

Her work has been featured in many media outlets like playbill.com, alllaboutjazz.com, thebraziliantimes.com, hothousejazz.com, thehudsonindependent.com. The New York Times once wrote about her: “Ms. Oliveira had a crowd of nearly 700 cheering, many in Portuguese, at City Hall Plaza”.

Many refer to Ms. Oliveira as the Elis Regina of New York. She currently has a residency at the famous Zinc Bar where she performs with her band “Monika Oliveira and the Brazilians” every Saturday in the West Village.
