Motown Jazz Cats Motown Jazz Cats

Motown Jazz Cats define not only the grounds, but also the outer limits of Jazz. The trio absorbs and transforms diverse musical influences into deeply cool improv, earning the reward to play Jazz.

Topping the band is Carissa Onifer, runner up in the 2010 Michigan's Got Talent competition, and winner of the prestigious Louis Armstrong Award for outstanding musical achievement in jazz piano.

Filling the pocket on the low end is Kosta Kapellas, a classically trained but currently grooved bassist. Kapellas leads orchestra for musical theatre in addition to performing with an award winning Rock band.

Hitting the hides is Doug Wio, veteran drummer schooled by Jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinson, B.B. King, and Pancho Sanchez. With over 35 years of professional experience, Wio was born to play skins.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
