Colin Dean

Colin Dean, " bassist, bandleader, composer and arranger, has performed with such notables as Candido Camero, Bobby Sanabria, Rene Marie, Junior Mance and David Amram, at venues such as Avery Fischer Hall, Dizzys Club at Lincoln Center, Town Hall in New York City, among many others. A versatile and creative musician, he is able to perform at the highest level no matter what the situation. Colin was selected in October 2006, as a recipient of an SOS Grant by the New York Foundation for the Arts, administered on Long Island by the East End Arts Council. In May 2006, he received a BFA from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. While at the New School he received private instruction and spiritual guidance from the legendary Buster Williams for four years. Some other very important teachers and mentors include Reggie Workman, Andy McKee, Bobby Sanabria, Jimmy Owens, Junior Mance, Bill Kirchner, Gerard D’Angelo, and Vic Juris, among others. Colin is also a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 802.

Several important factors have contributed to Colin’s talent and sense of mission. His father is a professional drummer, and his mother is a professional healer. As he grew up, he determined to draw upon these influences and perform and compose music that would inspire and heal. He is now fulfilling this mission. In addition to freelancing, composing, and leading his own bands, he frequently participates in volunteer activities where he uses his skills as a musician and a leader, to establish peace, culture and education in his community.
