Metropolis Ensemble

The Metropolis Ensemble is a nonprofit chamber orchestra bringing together the talents of an emerging generation of performers and composers who have already begun to reshape the sound and feel of music making in New York.

The Metropolis Ensemble is rooted in a conception of music as a living art form, continuously renewed. The creations of a living composer will be the focal point of concerts that explore the associations and ramifications from sources used to inspire new works. Our programs explore similarities between musical and poetical texts and images, displaying a kaleidoscopic sense of intertwined musical collaboration between artists present and past. The Metropolis Ensemble provides vital support to living composers by encouraging the commission, creation and performance of new work.

We recognize that New York City's cultural organizations have the enormous potential to make a special contribution to the quality of life of the city's school children and are equally devoted to educating a new generation of composers, musicians, and listeners.
