Amy Rempel

As a jazz pianist, Amy Rempel is developing a reputation as a significant, emerging talent. Winner of a Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award, the Indiana University Jacobs Scholarship, two Manitoba Young Women of Note jazz soloist competitions, and the Jimmy King Memorial and Asper jazz scholarships, Amy has been invited to the Ravinia Festival Jazz Program in Chicago and has performed with David Baker's Indiana University Jazz Orchestra, the Memphis Jazz Orchestra and the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra. She was selected as the first alternate pianist in the 2006 and 2007 Sisters in Jazz Collegiate competition, and also received the University of Memphis, Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music Presser Award, acknowledging her as the top senior music student. Amy leads a trio which performs frequently including appearances at two Jazz Winnipeg Festivals. She is also a member of the Dave Lisik Quintet and can be heard on their releases Bono in the Temple (2007) and Hurricane Ophelia (2008).

Amy has performed with the national tours of several Broadway musicals including Little Shop of Horrors and The King and I." She has also had the opportunity to perform with prominent jazz artists including Marvin Stamm, Rich Perry, Luis Bonilla, Carl Allen, Kurt Elling, Eric Marienthal, Paul Hanson, and Kirk Whalum. A talented composer, Amy has won the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra New Music Festival and Manitoba Music Educators Young Composer contests.

In Spring 2009, Amy will complete her Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she serves as the jazz piano Associate Instructor and studies with Luke Gillespie, David Baker, Pat Harbison, and Brent Wallarab. Amy completed her degree in Jazz Piano Performance at the University of Memphis, Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music in December 2006.
