In addition to contributing to these ensembles, Tom also directs and composes for his own new ensemble, the New Directions Chamber Brass, which was created to update the brass and percussion tradition by bringing together some of Philadelphia’s finest classical and jazz musicians to combine their talents and perform a new innovative brand of chamber music.
Esteemed credentials comprise Tom’s resume. His education includes a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Illinois, where he studied with Ray Sasaki, Dr. Michael Ewald, Ronald Romm, from the acclaimed Canadian Brass, and Chip McNeil, as well as a Master of Music degree from Baylor University, where he directed ensembles, taught classes and lessons, performed with the faculty brass quintet, and studied with Wiff Rudd, from the internationally renowned Rhythm and Brass, and Alex Parker. Throughout his career, Tom has also had the opportunity to perform along side several world class musicians including Maria Schneider, Itzhak Perlman, Clark Terry, Wycliffe Gordon, and more.
Tom currently lives in Philadelphia as an active musician performing, directing, composing, and teaching. He is the music director of the Bucks Jazz Band, and is on faculty at the Darlington Arts Center, St. Francis de Sales, and the Philadelphia Orchestra’s School Partnership Program.
