Albita

Albita is one of the most recognized voices in the Latin music scene. She is known as a vibrant singer and a qualified rumbera.

Albita began her career at very young age, coming from a home of parents who were famous singers. As young singer she started to make herself noticed because of her contribution to the renovation of traditional Cuban music, composing,arranging and singing with very personal style.

In 1990, she leaves Cuba and heads to Colombia, where she lived for 3 years, where in she consolidates her passion for different fusions in her music although always maintaining her Cuban roots.

In 1993, she crosses the border form Juarez, Mexico into El Paso, Texas, and on April 15, 1993 she arrives in Miami, Florida. There she begins to perform wherever they would let her bring her songs to the people; she was very successful, in her personal style. She put everything Cuban in style, from the Guayabera shirt, to the Cuban cigar, S.W. 8th street in Little Havana to the music.

While performing in Little Havana she began to attract the attention of famous celebrities like , Gianni Versaci, Quincy Jones, Madonna, Sly Stone, Paco de Lucia, Marco Antonio Muñiz, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, among others. There after she signs with Emilio Estefan, and the rest as they say, is history.

She begins taking her career to an international level, performing in such places as Australia, all Europe, Malasya, Africa and of course all of Latin America. She shares the stage with such stars as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Phil Collins, Tony Bennett, Oscar de Leon, Gilberto Gil, Juan Luis Guerra, Tito Nieves, Daniela Mercury, Miriam Makeeba, Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera and Melissa Ethrige. She has been invited to perform four Presidential functions, including inaugurations.

During this time all of records made in United States, were Grammy nominated, in total she was nominated with four Grammys.

In the year 2004 , she created her own record company and label “Angels’ Dawn Records” and under her own label she made record titled “ALBITA LLEGO” and finally this record won her two Grammys in the category of Best Contemporary Tropical Album of the year, as well as for producer of this album.

In 2005 ,Albita signed a contract with producers from Broadway for a major role in the Musical play “The Mambo Kings”, were she starred for six months. Albita’s role as Evalina Montoya received rave reviews.

Miami has choosen her Queen of Carnaval Calle ocho 2005, and she has been nominated again for Billboard Awards.
