Steve Miller: J50: The Evolution of The Joker (2CD)

Read "J50: The Evolution of The Joker (2CD)" reviewed by Doug Collette

There is no shortage of throwaway songs on Steve Miller Band albums early--Brave New World (Capitol, 1969)), Your Saving Grace (Capitol,1969)--or late--Circle of Love (Capitol, 1981), Abracadabra (Capitol, 1982). But there had never been a piece of fluff positioned as the centerpiece of one of his long-players until The Joker (Capitol, 1973) came out, Hardly anyone could have foreseen the massive success racked up by Steve Miller's eighth studio album, perhaps least of all the idiosyncratic nouveau bluesman ...

Steve Miller: Live! Breaking Ground August 3, 1977

Read "Live! Breaking Ground August 3, 1977" reviewed by Doug Collette

Given the careerist bent of Steve Miller around the time of Live! Breaking Ground: August 3, 1977, not to mention the popularity of concert releases in the wake of Frampton Comes Alive! (A&M,1976), it is altogether surprising the Space Cowboy did not issue a formal concert album until 1983. Miller came back from a self-imposed hiatus following the surprise (and widespread) popularity of The Joker (Capitol, 1973) with two smash albums in successive years, Fly Like An Eagle (Capitol, 1976) ...

Steve Miller Trio / Elton Dean: Steve Miller Trio Meets Elton Dean

Read "Steve Miller Trio Meets Elton Dean" reviewed by Nic Jones

Here's another exercise in musical archaeology from Reel and it is worthy of loud and prolonged applause. British pianist Miller was always a worthwhile player, shaping up here as he often did as the British Mal Waldron in terms of his purged-of-excess approach to the keyboard. He always kept sound musical company and the presence of both Dean and drummer Eddie Prevost testifies to that here.

Made in the moment, “Dedicated To Few" is a highly persuasive manifesto for such ...

Steve Miller: Anatomy Of Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame Rant

Source: HypeBot

Recent Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steve Miller had some choice words to say about the Hall of Fame's treatment and selection process, not all of it glowing. Here we look at an excerpt from an interview Miller did with Billboard regarding the event. Guest Post by Bobby Owsinski on Music 3.0 I’ve been no fan of the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame\, as you probably know if you read this blog. I don’t believe there should ...

The Popdose Guide to the Steve Miller Band, Part 2

Source: Pop Dose

As stated at the end of last weeks part one of our Steve Miller Band Guide, 1972 and 1973 represented a transitional period for Steve Miller. His upcoming eighth album would be the last under his groundbreaking contract with Capitol Records, and disappointing sales for his last two releases made it fairly clear that he was in danger of being dropped. In addition, Miller was in a bad car accident that kept him off his feet for several months and ...

Thats it. Ive had it. Or in the immortal words of Frank Costanza, I got a lot of problems with you people.
