This rather confidently named collective, led by Swiss trumpet/flugelhorn player Franco Ambrosetti, captured the attention of a live audience with masterly arrangements of seven standards, designed to encourage rather than inhibit improvisation. To call themselves The Winners in the ever-popular, ever-growing world of instrumental jazz is like a young punk group daring to lay hold to the name Better Than Beatles, right? Well, that may be so. A humble little recording that absolutely burns so bright the listener must hide his eyes.
