Josh Hanlon

Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Josh Hanlon recently completed his masters degree in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, where he played piano in the acclaimed One O' Clock Lab Band. During his time there he played in masterclass and performance with luminaries including Snooky Young, Pete Christlieb, Marchel Ivery, Marc Johnson, Andy Martin, John Vidacovich, Dave Stryker, Eddie Gomez, Matt Wilson, Jimmy Cobb, Jeff "Tain" Watts, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Cecil Bridgewater. Previously he performed with Ernie Watts, Jerry Granelli, Mike Murley, and Marvin Stamm, amongst others. He has also worked as a clinician/performer at the UNT Jazz Vocal and Jazz Bass workshops.

He has performed on recordings of the UNT Jazz Singers, the Two O'Clock Lab Band, and most recently on the second UNT small group CD entitled "Fair Play" including his composition "Pickmoney". His chart entitled "Lately" is featured on Lab 2006 and available as a past AAJ Download of the Day.

He will be teaching jazz piano at UNT in the coming year as Adjunct Faculty and recently tracked his debut recording entitled "Unknowing"

M.Mus from UNT, formerly pianist in the One O' Clock Lab Band I teach piano (jazz and popular styles) integrated with Improvisation and Theory. My rate is $60/hr students, after a 4 week preliminary period students pay for the month in advance. I teach in Denton, and work as a freelance musician in the DFW area.
