Perry Conticchio
Perry has been playing professionally along the East Coast for over 30 years. His formal studies were at Miami University of Ohio and Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied with Joe Viola, John LaPorta and Charlie Mariano.
Moving to the Washington, DC area in 1976, Perry became an established figure in the "new" music scene. During this time, he had the opportunity to perform with and learn from Don Cherry, Anthony Braxton, Sam Rivers and many others.
From 1994-1998 Perry led the successful jazz quartet "Clarity". Since then he has been directing his quartet and contributing on projects with many area bands, including the Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra and the well-received jazz/funk trio, Bassment Breaks. Conticchio has performed at many notable venues and festivals including; Blues Alley, One Step Down, The Bohemian Caverns, The D.C. Jazz Festival, The East Coast Jazz Festival, The Smithsonian Folk-Life Festival, The National Gallery of Art and more.
Conticchio has built his 35-year career using the singular jazz sounds of the 1960's as a point of departure. His last CD, titled "The Perry Conticchio Quartet" and recorded in 1999, contains classic jazz as well as several original songs that highlight Perry's unique improvisational style.
His latest release, "Speak Your Truth", features the newly re-formed and energized Perry Conticchio Quartet with guest artists performing on several tracks. Featuring, predominately original compositions by Conticchio, this powerful new release reveals Perry’s broad skills as a composer and interpretive artist.
Perry’s high-energy solos reveal an expressive mastery of jazz improvisation. When coupled with his quartet's tight musical interaction, “Speak your Truth” is a welcome and compelling addition to the collection of any jazz saxophone connoisseur.

In the saxophone with rhythm section" category, the key to distinction relies as much on the artist's frame of mind as it does superior musicianship. One of the saxophone giants of yesteryear, Dexter Gordon, had the chops, of course, on a series of splendid Blue Note albums in the sixties, with an extroverted, muscular, coming-right-at-you story-telling technique and a joyously brash frame of mind. On Perry Conticchio's Speak Your Truth, the leader and his band get into a similar mood. ...
