Marc Medwin

Marc Medwin was born and raised near Albany, NY, completed his B.A. in English at Ithaca College, studied musicology at Eastman School of Music, and received his Ph.D. in 2008 from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), having completed his dissertation on the late works of John Coltrane. Marc now teaches full time at American University in Washington, D.C., where he is Assistant Professor in the Performing Arts / Music Division. Increasingly active in the fields of performance and criticism, he writes exceptionally intelligent and sensitive liner notes, CD reviews, and articles for print and online journals, including "Dusted," "Bagatellen," “Coda,” “Cadence,” “All About Jazz,” and “One Final Note.” There are long lists of his reviews and articles at http://dustedmagazine.com/writers/medwin and www.bagatellen.com/archives/reviews/000872.html. Marc Medwin also plays piano and other keyboards and has recorded in trio with Henry Grimes and Tyshawn Sorey.
