The Battle of Santiago

THEY’RE NOT POP STARS ANYMORE:

(Toronto, On) - Just as they hit a 4th straight month on !Earshot’s Top 20 National college radio charts for international music, this band is just settling into their true identity.

“The Battle Of Santiago” formerly We’re Not Popstars have reached #1 in many Canadian cities on the college radio charts and they’re not slowing down anytime soon. This initial success has prompted the group to name the project and change their name to further connect with the new Afro- Cuban Post-Rock genre they continue to define.

With no drummer and no vocals some may wonder how The Battle Of Santiago chart next to Sloan and Femi Kuti. Well all you’ll have to do is take a listen, with 3 latin percussionists, horns, flutes, guitars and bass this isn’t anything you’ve ever heard before. Pulling from influences as diverse as it’s members, you’ll hear everything from Fela Kuti to Amon Tobin to Spirtualized.

The Battle of Santiago is currently recording their next record scheduled for release in early 2012 followed by an extensive summer festival tour in 2012.

"The first two tracks on the EP, “According to Legends” and “Full Colour” are very solid, mixing a pulsing percussion and bass groove with Cuban style flutes. You can even hear some of their previous post- punk drones here and there. I have a feeling that, given more space, this band will grow." - !Earshot

"Not only is tonight's performance at The Gladstone's Melody Bar going to open your eyes to a new genre of music but it will do so with flying colours" - BlogTo
