Looking for The Lady of Jazz, Blues and Gospel -

Now, you've found her.

Introducing the multi-talented North American artist, Janice Harrington, renowned singer of Jazz, Blues and Gospel, producer and actress. She resides in the quaint city of Lüneburg, Germany, with her German husband, the talented trombone player and piano-builder Werner Guertler.

Ms. Harrington’s international career began in 1969 with tours for the USO to South East Asia, where she entertained USA military personnel during the Vietnam War. Throughout 1975 to 1977, she appeared at the Las Vegas Flamingo Hotel. Her acting credits include national tours of Norman Is That You?, Two Gentlemen From Verona. She was featured in the American television series Days Of Our Lives.

Ms. Harrington has worked with such artists as Billy Daniels, Lloyd Bridges, Frank Sinatra Jr., Sammy Davis Jr. and Lionel Hampton, who told her "Two aries should not work together. You should get your own show." She did exactly that in 1980, when she relocated to Europe.

In 1982, Ms. Harrington was the opening act for Joan Armatrading in Oslo. She accepted an invitation to sing for Bishop Desmond Tutu in Oslo after he received the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1989, she performed with the Kenn Lending Blues Band as the opening act for B. B. King in Copenhagen. Special guest appearances include being on shows with Rockin Dopsie, Buddy Guy, Champion Jack Dupree and Luther Allison. In 1993, Ms. Harrington toured Switzerland with Big Jay McNeely. As a Jazz performer, Ms. Harrington has appeared with Nat Adderley, Papa Bue’s Royal Viking Jazzband, the Humphrey Lyttleton Band and the Dutch Swing College Band. Ms. Harrington has also appeared with the Danish Radio Big Band, the Oslo Radio Big Band, the German NDR Radio Big Band and the Ljubljana Radio Big Band. She has also been the opening act or guest soloist on numerous radio and TV productions.

She has written two musicals: Streets Of Harlem (produced in Oslo) and What My Eyes Have Seen (produced in Hamburg).

She ranks her following appearances as being the highlights of her career to-date: • guest soloist by special request of the American Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Hill, to sing for the First Anniversary in Memory of the Victims of 9/11 • featured artist at the final event of Black History Month 2003 in the country of Georgia at the request of the American Ambassador Mr. Miles.

Ms. Harrington is renowned as an ambassador of music and culture, bringing her programs of Authentic American Music and Learn English With Music to children around the world.

She has a strong well controlled voice displaying good jazz chops.Dinah Washington was obviously one of Ms. Harrington's role models and this album is dedicated that way, but she has her own slant and is no slavish imitator. " Brian Robinson, Jazz Journal
