Liza Micelli

Liza Micelli, Chicago-born pianist/composer and songwriter, respects her Chicago Blues and swing roots while embracing Afro-Caribbean and world folklore.

She is a graduate from the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico (CMPR) with a concentration in Jazz and Afro- Caribbean performance.

Micelli began her studies with classical pianist Mary Petrulis and jazz pianist Skip Green. In 2005 she earned a scholarship to attend Columbia College of Chicago with a concentration in Jazz performance. She studied under Peter Saxe, former pianist for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and Latin percussionist Ruben Alvarez. It was here she attended clinics with Chuchito Valdes, Jon Faddis, the Yellow Jackets, Christian McBride, Cedar Walton, Bill Charlap, Luis Marin, Eddie Gómez, Luis "Perico" Ortiz, Kurt Elling and Lalo Schifrin among others.

In 2008 Liza relocated to Puerto Rico to finish her bachelor's degree at (CMPR) studying under pianist Luis Marin.

She has been invited to assist in Latin Jazz clinics at the Sam Houston State University (SHSU), give Jazz master classes at the Centro de lasArtesin San Luis Potosi, México and songwriting classes at the Virtuosso school of music in San Luis Potosi, México.

Liza has performed in honorary concerts for Earth, Wind and Fire, pianist Ramsey Lewis and actor Richard Roundtree. She has also had the privilege of accompanying Andy Montañez, Moncho Rivera and Jerry Medina in a CMPR concert for the Dia Nacional de la Salsa; played Panamá Suite along side Danilo Pérez, Ben Street, Adam Cruz, Luis Marinand AricSchneller in the Latin American Festival: Inspiración of (SHSU), as well as various concerts with bassist and mentor Pedro Pérez, percussionist Manolito Rodriguez and the Jazz/Mexican fusion group Huazzteco under the direction of pianist and composer Samuel Martinez Herrera. Liza has shared the stage and participated in clinics with David Sanchez, Eddie Gómez, Alain Pérez, Danilo Pérez, Ignacio Berroa, Lenny Prieto, Rafael Ithier, Cheo Feliciano and Paoli Mejias among others.

Liza currently is producing her debut record,"La Gran Dictadora" which will include original pieces and new arrangements of well-known favorites.
