Fred Pauze

Born in Montreal in 1986, Frederic begins his musical apprenticeship at age 15 when he discovers the electric bass as an autodidact. In 2005, he attends the CEGEP in Drummondville in music. It is at that time that he decides to learn the upright bass with Guy Boisvert, Daniel Lessard, Gilbert Fleury and Réal Montminy as teachers. Also he had the opportunity of playing with some of his teachers professionally regularly such as Francois Bourassa, Camil Bélisle, Billy Bouffard, Denis Mailloux, and Daniel Lessard. From 2008 to 2012, he is completing his bachelor’s degree at McGill University in Jazz Performance where he studies with renowned bassist Fraser Hollins. He shows a restless appetite for composition and frequently writes new pieces to be played in various scholar and non-scholar concerts. Fred has also had the chance to study with masters like Rémi Bolduc, Joe Sullivan, Jan Jarczyk and André White. Frederic performs regularly on the Montreal scene in clubs (Upstairs, Diese Onze, etc) or Concert Halls. He is an in-demand freelance and has shared the stage with musicians like Yvan Belleau, Camil Bélisle, François Bourassa, Christine Tassan, Mike Gauthier, Mike Rud, John Riley, Félix Stussi, Daniel Lessard, Glen Bradley, Samuel Blais, Philippe Melanson, Greg Clayton, Manouche Swing Quintet, the Early Jazz Band, Gadji-Gadjo (Balkan/Quebecois music), Jean-Francois Lessard (singer/songwriter) and numerous other figures of the music scene. Fred has appeared at the 2010 Montreal International Jazz Festival with the Ivan Garzon Trio, in 2011 with Misses Satchmo and in 2012 with the Émie R Roussel Trio. He has also been to Havana, Cuba, to the Festival Jazz Plaza, in the Rachel Therrien Quintet in 2010. Moreover, the Fred Pauze Quintet has been featured in the 2012 Rimouski’s FestiJazz’s showcase for emerging groups and came back with the «Coup de Coeur du public» (Public's Choice Award)!

Nominated by the Conseil Québécois de la Musique (Quebec Council for Music) for the Jazz Album of the Year category in 2013. Nominated at l'ADISQ for the album ''The Sun Will Shine'' by Misses Satchmo for the ''Album Jazz Interprétation de l'année''. Winner of the Public's Choice Award at the ''FestiJazz de Rimouski'' 2012 edition.
