Noam Wiesenberg

Hailing from Tel Aviv, Noam Wiesenberg is a highly sought after bassist and arranger on the New York music scene.

Noam was born into a music family, and exposed to many different genres at an early age. After 12 years of playing the cello, Noam switched his focus to the double bass at age 20. The first of several musical crossroads, he chose to focus on jazz because he was mesmerized by the musical capabilities of jazz musicians. Following this transition, he quickly became an integral part of the Israeli Jazz scene. His classical background informs both his composition and arranging, and has lead to collaborations with some of the top symphony orchestras in Israel, including The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, The Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and the Israel Defense Force Education Unit Orchestra.

Noam studied composition and arranging at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and Jazz Performance at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. He moved to the USA in 2008 to further his formal studies, and in 2010 graduated Magna Cum Laude in Jazz Performance from Berklee College of Music in Boston. He then moved to New York, realizing a years-long dream to join many of his friends, collaborators, and mentors. Noam has since worked with many musicians from New York and beyond, including Antonio Sanchez, Ari Hoenig, Billy Hart, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Gilad Hekselman, Lage Lund, Jonathan Kreisberg, Seamus Blake, Will Vinson, Dave Liebman, Aaron Goldberg, Shai Maestro, Uri Cane, Matisyahu and more.

As an arranger, his extensive international work includes an arrangement for the Metropole Orkest with Grammy award winning singer Lalah Hathaway, conducted by the multiple Grammy award winner Vince Mendoza. Additionally, Wiesenberg wrote string quartet arrangements for Chilean Singer-Guitarist Camila Meza’s new project - “Camila Meza & Nectar Orchestra”, and was the arranger and musical director of a nonet project led by luminary drummer - Ari Hoenig.

Following a ten year career as an arranger and performer of the work of other musicians, Noam has released his debut album, "Roads Diverge" on May 18th 2018 on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records.

Kind Folk: Head Towards The Center

Read "Head Towards The Center" reviewed by Jerome Wilson

Kind Folk is a quartet consisting of trumpeter John Raymond, alto saxophonist Alex LoRe, bassist Noam Wiesenberg and drummer Colin Stranahan. They recorded their first album in 2018, then went their separate ways for various reasons. They finally reconnected in June 2021 and came up with the simmering blend of jazz, rock and folk sensibilities that makes up this album. Generally, there is a subdued but close-knit feel to this music. Tracks such as “Mantrois" and “Around, Forever" ...

Noam Wiesenberg: Roads Diverge

Read "Roads Diverge" reviewed by Neri Pollastri

Noam Wiesenberg: Roads Diverge

Read "Roads Diverge" reviewed by Geno Thackara

A title such as Roads Diverge probably isn't surprising from someone as well-traveled as Noam Wiesenberg. The sound largely sticks to one category--mostly-acoustic contemporary jazz with a high dose of rollicking cheer--and yet still reflects how much the young bassist has learned from his travels through life so far. The confident smoothness, eclectic writing-style and casting of excellent session-mates all show the lessons of his first decade as a working player, which subtly inform this debut as a leader.
