Nós Novo

Nós Novo is a innovative quartet of jazz musicians who are exploring Celtic music with Afro-Brazilian grooves and open-ended improvisation. Led by vibist/percussionist James Shipp, the group seeks to open up the music of Ireland the same way Dizzy Gillespie did with Cuban music, and John Zorn did with the music of the Jewish diaspora.

The members of the band are:

James Shipp: vibes, percussion, shruti boxes, compositions, arrangements

Jo Lawry: vocals, mandolin, fiddle, melodica

Gilad Hekselman: guitar

Rogerio Boccato: percussion

The band has also featured the talents of:

Keith Ganz: played guitar on "Strange Sweethearts..." and made lasting contributions to the sound of the band

Kate McGarry: sang on "As I Roved Out" and "Fold"

Becca Stevens: frequent special guest on vocals and charango/ukulele
