Album Description

THE GUTTENBERGER BROTHERS Since the film Chocolat from 2000 by Lasse Hallström based on the novel by Joanne Harris Jazz Manouche belongs to European cultural world especially thanks to Johnny Depp's involvement as Gypsiemusician. In this tradition are the Guttenberger Brothers from Stuttgart. Without ignoring their Sinti-roots this ensemble moved on in music and arrived the present. Including instruments like saxophon, piano and drums the band grew up to a small Jazzband still using the cliché of Jazz Manouche through the play of the sologuitar as well as using somewhere the traditional rhythmguitar. The own title have the charm of compositions by Django Reinhardt with their typical harmonic turns. But the top of the new CD is the voice of #ONE Knebo Guttenberger. Besides the two instrumentals "Artellerie Lourde" by Django Reinhardt and the uptempo number "Hart & Herzlich" by Branko Arnšek all the other tracks can be assigned to the genre "Vocal Jazz". "I only have eyes" and "There will never be another you" are medium swingers, "I wish you love" and "Fools rush in" ballads and counterparts to Frank Sinatra's interpretations in english language. In Portuguese Knebo sings the title "Otono no rio" by Ed Motta, the Brazilian Stevie Wonder. In original Ed Motta interpreted this title as Swing, the Guttenberger Brothers created a version, dedicated to the funky-style of Ed Motta. All other songs are in German and in direct competition to Mr. Roger Cicero, as the Jazz Podium has already noticed. They report about important issues, such as the desire in "It can not happen without you," (Es geht nicht ohne dich) or friendship in "My best girlfriend" (Meine beste Freundin), or mental states of the human psyche in "spring fever" (Frühlingsgefühle). The title "I had dreamed" (Ich hatte geträumt) however is a contribution to the current political situation of the refugee crisis. At last remains the track "Couple" (Zu Zweit) by Roger Cicero and the Guttenberger Brothers even lend a bit more bite to the tune. The Guttenberger Brothers are: Knebo Guttenberger - vocals, rhythm guitar Mano Guttenberer - solo Guitar Branko Arnsek - bass Stefan Koschitzki - alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, flute Frank Eberle - piano Christoph Raff - drums
