Pat Illingworth

Born in Lancaster, Lancashire, Pat started receiving formal drum lessons at age 7 (later studying piano and percussion). After having two enthusiastic local teachers, performing with many youth ensembles and semi-pro gigs and reaching the “Drummers' Alliance” National Finals, he won a scholarship to study with acclaimed teacher Dave Hassell. 2 years later he turned pro, performing and teaching whilst based in Manchester. Pat moved to London in late 2003 and continues to be a very active freelance player both live and in the studio.

With an emphasis on groove and musicality, Pat is a very versatile musician who is comfortable in many idioms. This is confirmed by the varied artists he has toured and recorded with: SIA (Zero 7), CORINNE BAILEY RAE, DAVE STEWART (Eurythmics) - working on the “Alfie” film soundtrack with Joss Stone & Mick Jagger, JERRY DAMMERS (The Specials), JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET, 808 STATE, FELA! (National Theatre), JUST JACK, COLIN BLUNSTONE (The Zombies), HUGH MASEKELA, CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA, DEODATO, MARCUS MILLER, HOMELIFE, MAXI JAZZ (Faithless), DANNY THOMPSON, HEATHER SMALL (M People), ZOE RAHMAN - playing on the Mercury Prize nominated album “Melting Pot”, JAN KOPINSKI/PINSKI ZOO, ARUN GHOSH, BEN CASTLE, MICHAEL PROPHET, JOHNNY CLARKE, CORNEL CAMPBELL, RICO RODRIGUEZ, SOOTHSAYERS, NATACHA ATLAS, SNAKE DAVIS, MIKE WALKER, JIMMY BRUNO & JACK WILKINS, REGGIE WASHINGTON, JEFF BERLIN, HADRIEN FERAUD and many more...

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
