Paul Gonzales

Albuquerque native, Paul Gonzales began his professional career in 1984 as “jazz trumpet soloist” with the Army Band of New England. After returning to Albuquerque in 1985, he began leading, composing, and arranging for various groups including Tetragon. His beginnings as a percussionist and vocalist began in 1994 when he joined Son Como Son. He has recorded one album as a imageleader, “Warm Valley” and has appeared at the Newport, Park City, St Lucia, Chateau St Michelle, Telluride, Hot Springs, and New Mexico Jazz Festivals. Paul appears on Ottmar Liebert’s platinum selling cd, “Little Wing”. He has performed with Doug Lawrence, Greg Abate, Carlos “Patato” Valdes, Pete Escovedo, the Platters, the Four Tops, the Cab Calloway Orch, and the Buddy Rich Alumni Big Band. He currently plays lead trumpet with Calle 66 and is the music director of the Jackie Zamora Brazilian Quintet. He has been an adjunct trumpet professor at Northern New Mexico College as well as a sought-after clinician/educator for over a decade. Paul is also a retired Albuquerque Firefighter. He has also been a teacher in Outpost’s Jazz Education program since 2008 and is the Monday host of “All That Jazz” on KUNM 89.9FM.
