The Miami Big Sound Orchestra is a project formed in 2006 at MDC's Wolfson campus as a collaboration of like-minded musicians from Miami's jazz and Latin music communities. This 18-piece powerhouse group is comprised of veteran Miami musicians who have performed and toured with the likes of Jon Secada, Chayanne, Ray Ruiz, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Tito Nieves, Chaka Khan, and the Funk Brothers among many other artists.
The band performs Rumba, Guaguanco, Joropo, Son, Songo, Afro-Guiro, Boogaloo, Samba, contemporary jazz and Soul; including originals written specifically for the group by composers such as Grammy Award-winning producer Chino Nunez, Jaui Schneider (pianist/composer for Ray Barretto), and legendary Miami bassist/composer Rafael "Cali" Valencia.
