Pete Sklaroff

Peter Sklaroff is a highly experienced guitarist and music educator with over 25 years experience of performing/touring and music education at Higher Education and Postgraduate level. He was most recently the Head of Jazz Studies at Leeds College of Music in the UK and previously held the posts of Assistant Head of Music, Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Jazz course, HE (Music) Admissions Manager and Instrumental Coordinator of Guitar and Bass. For many years, Peter was also the Principal Jazz/Electric Guitar Tutor at LCM. His musical specialisms include Jazz Improvisation, Harmony and Performance Techniques, and he has taught Jazz Language and Vocabulary, Harmonic Techniques, Improvisation Strategies, and Jazz Performance Studies at Higher Education and Postgraduate level. He initially graduated from Edinburgh College of Art (Heriot Watt University) with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Humanities (1984) before pursuing and consolidating his musical studies full-time at the well-known City of Leeds College of Music in 1985. Peter eventually graduated with a Diploma in Jazz, Light & Contemporary Music and received a First Class award for Jazz Guitar Performance (1988). Originally self taught, Peter studied guitar in Edinburgh with noted local guitarists Neil Munro and Ian Aitken, before continuing his studies with guitarists Adrian Ingram and Andy Watson in Leeds. His most recent studies included lessons in jazz improvisation and advanced harmonic theory with the late and world-renowned jazz pedagogue Charlie Banacos in the USA.
