Reigo 'Fish' Ahven
Began music studies on piano at the age of 6, drumset at the age of 12. Played the first professional gig in the age of 15.
Studied in G.Ots Music School in Tallinn (drumset 1998-2000), University of Tartu (semiotics and culturology 2000-2003),Viljandi Culture Academy (drums & teaching), Sibelius Academy (Jazz drums 2005-2006), Estonian Music- and Theatre Academy (Jazz music, 2016-2018).
Studied with Eno Kollom, Tanel Ruben, Jussi Lehtonen, Jukkis Uotila, Jimmy Cobb, Ari Hoenig, John Riley.
Performed with Lenna, Koit Toome, Maarja, Ivo Linna, Karl-Erik Taukar and many international jazz musicians.
Currently active in musical establishments such as Reigo Ahven Trio, Lenna, New Wind Jazz Orchestra and many projects. Also drum collectives like Viljandi Drumlab, Macieira De Ouro, A.Le Coq Löögirühm.
I'm deep into teaching rhythmics and percussion, have been teaching djembe drums to about 120 000 kids and 45 000 adults in Estonia, Finland and Latvia. Also the ambassador of Schlagwerk cajons in the Baltics. Curated Student Jazz festival 2002-2006, established jazz club Philly Joe's in Tallinn 2014.
Father of three - Uku, Eke and Yoko.
