Richard Garrett

I was born near London, UK in 1957. I started playing guitar and bass at the age of sixteen and have been writing music ever since. I've played jazz, rock, folk and blues; accompanied poets and dijeridu players; sat in a pit orchestra for pantomime; studied singing, Indian Rag and Cosmic Theatre.

I have released four cassette albums and one CD album. The CD, Robot Sculpture, is a powerful fusion of algorithmic composition and fluid improvisation which produces works of great freedom and subtlety. Some of the generative music used to create Robot Sculpture featured as part of "Dark Symphony" a 250,000 Watt computerised sound exhibit at the 2003 Ars Electronica festival in Linz, Austria.

I now live in an isolated Welsh farmhouse, halfway between the mountains of Snowdonia and the sea, with my partner, Heather Slade. Here, I write music, play guitar at every opportunity and lead weekly jazz workshops near Barmouth, Gwynedd.
