Robbyn Tongue
Robbyn was presented with the John C. Borden award for “Outstanding Accomplishment in Jazz” upon graduating this past spring from Manhattan School of Music. In New York, Robbyn has performed regularly with Manhattan School of Music’s Concert Jazz Band under the direction of Justin DiCioccio and MSM’s Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Latin percussionist Bobby Sanbria. With these groups he has performed at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Makor, and the Nuyorican Poets Café alongside jazz greats such as Dave Leibman, John Faddis, and Candido Camero. The Robbyn Tongue Band, which draws inspiration from a wide array of genres including funk, soul, pop, and modern jazz, has been performing his original music at venues such as the Rockwood Music Hall and Parkside Lounge. The Robbyn Tongue Band successfully combines an accessible pop culture aesthetic with the creative energy of jazz improvisation, creating a fresh modern sound fused from the audience’s collective contemporary experience. Robbyn has also performed at the Jazz Standard, the Mona Lounge, and the Julliard School, and had studied with Steve Slagle, Dick Oatts, Steve Wilson, John Riley, and Chris Rosenberg.
