Robert Sadin

Robert Sadin has produced some of the most interesting albums of recent times.

His latest project is Art of Love - Music of Machaut (Deutsche Grammophon):

Songs of the 14th century drenched in the sounds of Brazil, Africa, jazz, and great singer-songwriters. An extraordinary array of contemporary artists reinterpret and reinvent the music of the great 14th-century French composer and poet, Guillaume de Machaut. Grammy®-winning arranger and producer Robert Sadin has conceived an album which blurs boundaries and crosses centuries.

If on a Winter’s Night…, featuring Sting, explores the winter season grounded in the sounds of northern England, and encompasses music ranging from Henry Purcell to Appalachian folk songs to Sting’s original work.

Gershwin’s World, featuring Herbie Hancock with guest artists Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, won three Grammy Awards.

Alegria, featuring Wayne Shorter in a repertoire which includes Shorter’s compositions, a folk song, a medieval hymn and Villa Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras #5 in which Shorter shared the leading role with cellist Charles Curtis (Curtis is a featured artist on Art of Love), won three Grammy Awards.

So Many Stars, featuring Kathleen Battle with guest artists Grover Washington, Cyrus Chestnut and Cyro Baptista, included spirituals, folk songs and music of Brazil.

Conqueror, featuring the legendary Clark Sisters with guest artist Melle Mel, was the first gospel album to include rap.

Robert has appeared as guest conductor with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The London Symphony Orchestra, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He has created arrangements for Placido Domingo, Kathleen Battle, and Jimmy Scott among others and has conducted American premiers of compositions by Milton Babbitt, Witold Lutoslawski and Schoenberg’s Moses and Aaron. He lives in Brooklyn.
