Rocket: Tipp-Topp

Read "Tipp-Topp" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Rocket--led by writer and keyboardist Emanuel Ruffler--refers to the music on its debut, Tipp-Topp, as Disco Jazz. Lest such a description have too many people running for the hills to escape visions of big hair and bigger flares, it needs stating up front that the epithet fits in a good way. Disco was about having fun, creating danceable grooves that would fill a dance floor time and time again. That's what Rocket does with pretty much everything on this album. ...

New Release By The Hammer Klavier Trio "Rocket In The Pocket"

Source: Jan Matthies Music Management

The Hammer Klavier Trio (hKT) is one of Germany's premiere jazz piano trios. In fact they are the only jazz act from Germany that ever has been nominated for an award by the American Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) - “Best Video of the Year" in 2010. Having played a lot in Germany and Europe this nomination meant a lot to them and they put in all efforts to do a 1-week tour in New York City, USA in June 2011. ...

One Track Mind: James Cotton and Billy Branch, "Rocket 88" (2011)

One Track Mind: James Cotton and Billy Branch, "Rocket 88" (2011)

Source: Something Else!

Like an aging boxer making an heroic late-round stand, James “Superharp" Cotton brilliantly tangles on a timeless favorite from his 1960s tenure with Vanguard, giving fellow harp master Billy Branch all he can handle. Even now, Cotton's playing style closely resembles his bandleading heyday—a memorably robust player, you imagine smoke and spit blasting out of the other side of his harmonica as he blows—but the 74-year-old has found both a suitable inheritor, and a worthy opponent, in Branch. Perhaps that's ...

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Rocket Science (2011)

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Rocket Science (2011)

Source: Something Else!

By Tom Johnson Sometimes old really is new again. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones existed as a trio for a handful of years after harmonica/pianist Howard Levy left, only to ask consistent fill-in saxophonist Jeff Coffin to join their ranks. Being a talented guy, he gets around, and when Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore tragically died a few years ago, Coffin, who had been filling in for him while they were on the road, was asked to join the ...

Rockethub Co-Founders Brian Meece and Vlad Vukicevic on Branding Partnerships

Rockethub Co-Founders Brian Meece and Vlad Vukicevic on Branding Partnerships

Source: We All Make Music

About two weeks ago, we tipped you off to the existence of Rockethub's inaugural Launchpad Opportunity, a branded competition of sorts featuring Gibson. With just a few days to go, we decided to chat with Rockethub's co-founders about their foray into the world of band-brand matchmaking. Thus far, their competition's attracted a wide range of performers—ukelele players and classically-trained pianists, would-be pop starlets and polymath singer songwriters—and many votes from many different crowds of people. Rockethub's co-founders Brian Meece, Vlad ...

Announcing Rockethub's Gibson Opportunity

Source: We All Make Music

In the past year or so, one of the most exciting (or disturbing, depending on your politics) developments in independent music has been the involvement of major corporate brands. Thanks to Rockethub, brand partnerships have officially come to crowdfunding. Inspired by the generosity that drove Converse to open a recording studio (among other things), founders Brian, Vlad, and Jed decided to start bringing major brands into the folds of their site's opportunities. So if you'd be at all interested in ...

MP3 Rocket - "Hey RIAA Boss, Our Users Do Not File-Share Music Anymore, They Time Shift It!"

Source: HypeBot

Here we go again. MP3 Rocket is mostly known for being a LimeWire spin-off. Not anymore. The company has dropped the P2P functionality of their service and gone legit—sort of. Due to the declining quantity and quality of the MP3s available over the Gnutella network, as well as mounting legal concerns, they have decided to reposition themselves as YouTube downloading technology. The client works as it did before, but with one exception. When users search for music, the results that ...
